Hello friends,
We are working on developing a clearer vision for Caemon’s legacy, and in moving forward, we would love your input on a few things. First and foremost, we need a name. Any brainstorming here is welcome!
Once we have a name, if any of you who have graphic design skills would like to donate your talents to helping us come up with a really great image for our organization, we would love that.
What you need to know:
We want this organization to be a positive means for carrying on Caemon’s legacy and his love of things like reading and medical play, but we also want it to involve the passions that arose from his illness: blood and blood product donation, bone marrow donation, and, of course, the big one, JMML research.
If you have any ideas–and I mean any–please respond with them here. We want to collect as many possibilities as we can.
Once we have an official name, we’ll begin working on a website, setting up a nonprofit, and so much more. We look forward to hearing from you!
***Thanks for all of your input! You’ve had a lot of great ideas, and because of a couple of these, we have a name. Once we get things up and rolling with a website, all of that will be revealed. Thanks for your help!
I’ve a Facebook friend who is a biologist and she often posts amazing enlarged photos of genetic material, microbes, and all kinds of biology related things. These are quite beautiful. I wonder if a little critter could be designed based on what JMML looks like under a microscope. And then another based on what Bone Marrow looks like under a microscope. You could have the BMT material (a good guy critter) battling JMML (obviously the bad guy critter) as part of your graphic design.
I know it’s out there, but you did say anything. This is the first thing that came into my mind when I read the post, and yes my mind is a strange land. You should also know I talk to Teddy Bears. 🙂
You are both in my thoughts.
Hugs from the land downunder.
Those are really intriguing ideas! We asked for any and all because we want a good brainstorm, and in a good brainstorm, no idea is a bad one. Thank you for this!
P.S. And for the record, I’m known to speak to any number of inanimate object these days, including my tea kettle and my standing mixer. Whatever gets us through. xoxo
What about calling it what it is…”Caemon’s Legacy”
Caemon’s Legacy was my first though too.
having re-read some of your posts, blogs… which are all quite beautifully written- I thought you might gather some ideas from them… for instance.. your “dammit” blog.. about Jack Johnsons song “All at once”… maybe play on those words possibly, since there is an all encompassing theme of all of the diseases that need to be cured and all of Caemons passions and skills, as well as being a personal connection/reflection of “getting through the night” as all are trying to cure and get through these diseases. Either way.. maybe going back through your beautiful writings could inspire you. You are creative… and they are so poignant. Just a thought. Love and light to you both.
I know lots of ideas will come in and one will “land”. What just popped up for me is “C is for Caring”.
Caemon’s Crusaders
I really love Tricia’s idea of showing JMML up close. I also think that the crocodile image has been something people can just GET as shorthand for Caemon (my son Keith, 2, wears his Caemon shirt and it’s very meaningful to me). Perhaps JMML (in all its purple Google imagery) within the confines of a crocodile border/logo, could be something. In fundraising projects, a goal could involve turning that purple croc back to green, bit by bit.
I just have to say that I write this as someone who has benefited greatly from you both sharing Caemon’s journey. My son was born 2 months premature and faced quote a few challenges after that. There were some unforeseen medical issues later, and one bad infection last December had him hospitalized for a few days and needing surgery. I am friends with one of Caemon’s nurses, Amy, and I had been following Caemon’s story. In the middle of the night, when I was quite fearful and tired in a lousy Brooklyn pediatric wing, your posts and pictures gave me strength to advocate and not get overwhelmed. I just love you guys for that gift.
Thank you. Any friend of Amy’s is a friend of ours. Hope your little guy is doing much better.
Curing for Caemon
I, too, think Caemon’s Legacy is perfect. I’ll keep thinking though. (PS Sent a few books out today, more tomorrow)
Ok, and another thing. I was looking at the initials JMML and I thought, how appropriate: It comes out “Just my moms’ love”.
I love this!!
Crocodile Waves, Crocodile Clout, Crocodile Steam, Croc Power, Crocodile Strong, Crocodile Courage. And of course Tenacious C.
What about the following (and I am just going with free association and may have more that will come to me about 3 a.m. LOL I apologize in advance for any grammatical errors.)
When I Grow Up – I thought this because Caemon wanted to be so many things (Nurse, Cook, etc) and the reason behind these foundations is to help fund cures so our babies can grow up to be anything they want to be. It shows hope.
Caemons Legacy
C’mon Along our Fight for a Cure (Kind of a play on his name)
Fighting for To-marrow
Match Point (matching for bone marrow)
Chomping for a Cure (since he loved crocs)
I will keep thinking, and if I am way off base let me know.
